Jake's Story

Studying at the TAFE Queensland's Toowoomba campus, Jake Hewitt completed his Certificate III in Agriculture (AHC30116) and was successful in securing a job on a cattle station in the Kimberley’s.

Jake first started with TAFE Queensland as a TAFE at Schools student when he was at Toowoomba Grammar School, completing a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (MEM20413). Jake truly believes that he would not have secured the job opportunity, had it not been for the qualifications he completed at TAFE Queensland, he is now living the next chapter of his life in Western Australia.

The TAFE Queensland Rural Centre of Excellence is located at the Toowoomba campus. It’s an agricultural training hub delivering high-quality training to the state’s future rural industry workforce. The facility includes an assimilated veterinary surgery for courses in Animal Studies and in Veterinary Nursing.

A fenced precinct allows livestock to be brought in for courses and workshops on animal nutrition, market specifications and beef breeding. Here the students learn the latest practices in innovative sustainable agriculture and horticulture and the skills to take full advantage of technological advances in the industry.
