Future Jobs in Toowoomba

Healthcare & Social Assistance

With three large regional hospitals and extensive allied health and aged care this is the largest employment sector in Toowoomba. By 2024 it is expected that the number of jobs in healthcare and social assistance will increase by more than 2 000.



Education & Training

Toowoomba has more than 60 schools and tertiary education through the University of Southern Queensland and TAFE Queensland as well as many industry specific training organisations. By 2024 it is expected that around 600 more workers will be employed in this sector.



Construction

The construction industry accounts for 23% of the Toowoomba economy and it employs 13,350 people on a full-time basis. According to current data, Toowoomba requires an additional 600 new houses to meet existing demand.



Manufacturing

Food products manufactured in the Toowoomba Region include meat, bakery and dairy products, milled grain as well as smaller products such as confectionary, soft drink and biscuits. Advanced manufacturing includes specialisations in mining, agriculture and transport.



Public Admin & Safety

All levels of government are represented in Toowoomba which means employees cover a diversity of skills from justice and welfare to emergency services, research and policy.



Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

Agriculture is one of Toowoomba’s main economic drivers. As modern farming becomes more and more scientific and technologically advanced, the industry is always seeking workers with high levels of skill and knowledge.



Defence

Drawing staff from all over Australia our defence force bases are important to our local community. The Swartz Barracks near Oakey is where The Army Aviation Training Centre is located while Borneo Barracks at Cabarlah is a hub for signals and other training.
