Toowoomba’s strategic location along the Melbourne to Brisbane freight route makes it an absolute gem for economic growth. Through road, rail and air it is seen as a gateway to economies around the world including on our doorstep, the $220 billion South East Queensland economy.


The Toowoomba Region’s key export sectors; mining, agriculture and manufacturing all rely on the distribution of product to meet the growing demand from domestic and overseas markets. These industries are strategic drivers of economic growth in the Toowoomba Region.

Lead to More Job Opportunities

According to TSBE’s FY20 Development Status Report Toowoomba has around $7.7billion in major projects underway with $0.7billion approved and awaiting commencement and a further $4.65billion in a proposal phase. These projects will be huge drivers of the Toowoomba economy and provide thousands of jobs.

Projects Include:

  • Inland Rail approved and underway - $5billion
  • Interlink SQ – approved - $1billion
  • Various aged care facilities and Over 50s lifestyle resorts – underway – around $187million
  • Lapro’s Integrated Milk Project – approved but not yet commenced - $300million
  • Toowoomba Hospital Redevelopment - proposed but not yet approved - $1.6billion
  • Asterion Medical Cannabis Farm – underway $300 million


Road

The 41km, $1.6billion Toowoomba Bypass opened to traffic in 2019 linking Brisbane, the Darling Downs and the Surat Basin and accelerating the growth of regional Australia.

Our gateway to the world is Queensland’s only dedicated 747-8F international freighter service with weekly Cathay Pacific air-cargo services to Hong Kong and passenger service of 80 direct flights per week.

Interlink SQ

24-hectare intermodal freight terminal linking rail, road, air and sea. Strategically located 13km west of Toowoomba, the facility comprises a master planned premium transport, logistics, warehousing and industrial estate and will house 3km of state-of-the-art rail infrastructure utilising the current West Moreton rail line and capitalising on the proposed Inland Rail project.

Regional Trade Distribution Centre (RTDC)

Construction has commenced on the $10 million Regional Trade Distribution Centre at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport. The benefits of the RTCD include rapid access to international markets for agricultural producers.
