Peachey Distilling Co

Pioneers in Homestead Gin

The taste of summer: Peachey Distilling Co’s distinctive citrusy Homestead Gin.

Or it could be Peachey’s spiced rum, the taste of autumn is definitely 1868 Vodka while winter is Toowoomba Dry Gin and then there’s spring blossom vodka. We said it was a city for all seasons!

How we love provenance and Pechey Distilling Co has lots. For starters, it’s a family collaborative led by Ben Pechey O’Brien. His father John and mother … (nee Pechey) also work in the business.

But the whole Pechey story goes back to 1868 when Edward Wilmot Pechey first came to the Highfields/Hampton area as a timber man. In 1872 he built the picturesque homestead above his sawmill and it’s been in the family ever since. The property now features a very slick distillery housed in the old dairy.

Over the years, the family planted a variety of citrus and fruit trees around the homestead and, lucky for us, in 1920 they planted cumquats which are the stars of the signature Homestead Gin.

Toowoomba Grand Central

Beef Industry

The Queensland beef production industry is worth around $5.86 billion per year (2015/16) making it the State’s largest primary industry. Southern Queensland, including Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, contributes 22% of the total beef cattle in the state, and our processing sector accounts for 59% of all exports.

The Toowoomba region is blessed with rich, fertile grazing country and it also has one of the highest concentrations of feedlots in Australia. Oakey Beef Exports is one of Australia’s largest beef processing plants employing more than 750 people from the Toowoomba Region.

Services offered by Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport have opened up opportunities for frozen and chilled beef exports to Asian markets.

Local Beef Producers Include:

  • Mort & Co is renowned for its highest quality F1-F4 marbled Wagyu beef created from premium pasture fed cattle that are finished on grain at their world-class feedlots for a minimum of 365 days. The result is a rich, soft and delicate Wagyu taste.

  • NH Foods Australia specialises in Black Angus Reserve which is Australia’s largest verified Black Angus Beef Brand with 100% traceability from paddock to plate. Cattle are finished on an exclusive formulated diet of wheat, corn and barley.

  • Stockyard Beef produces and markets high quality grain-fed Wagyu and Angus beef from it’s property at Jondaryan. The Stockyard Gold Label is derived from their Angus cattle which are raised on pasture for around 15 months and then grain fed for at least 200 days.

  • Claytons Organic Beef is a family owned grassfed certified organic beef producer. The Sargood family raise their cattle humanely on a certified organic farm called Tulloch Brae north of Toowoomba. Care and attention of their stock is reflected in the flavour and tenderness of their beef.
