Commercial with Character

Rowes redevelopment, Walton Stores, the Old Laundry, Mills Precinct, Quest Apartment Hotels and The Long Building are all examples of how developers are maintaining Toowoomba’s heritage charm while transforming older industrial buildings into exciting new spaces.

It’s a bit like West End in Brisbane: old industrial sites are rezoned for the people who love the character and authenticity of these old heritage sites.

Commercial with Character

The area around the old Defiance Flour Mills (now known as The Mills Precinct) is a great example of things to come. It was once a Toowoomba icon, close to the CBD and bustling with activity for more than 100 years. Developers are utilising the old architectural fabric with its silo, railway enclaves and clerestory warehouses to create a vibrant space for business, community and culture. Old pubs and warehouses are undergoing transformations too and we are finding character-rich offices and funky retail spaces popping up around the CBD fringe. The revitalisation of these historic buildings is welcomed by the greater Toowoomba community as it blends the old world charm of these buildings with new architectural designs.

Swanky

Swanky

Swanky Agency is a leading Shopify Plus designer and developer with offices in the UK and Toowoomba.

The team delivers innovative digital solutions that elevate clients to the forefront of their industries. But why did Swanky Agency choose Toowoomba as its Australian HQ? We asked Director of Swanky Australia, Sean Clanchy.

We liked the lower cost of operations, the ability to hire straight out of USQ (limited competition for graduates) and Toowoomba’s connectedness (in non-Covid times) via Toowoomba Airport.

We have grown without funding from start-up to 15 staff in under 18 months and we are planning to double that in 2021.“The big benefits of working from regional Queensland include shorter commute and lower cost of living for staff and also lower costs for our overall business operations.
