export success

Premium beef snack manufacturer Jim’s Jerky is among the Toowoomba region’s emerging exporters, ready to take its home grown success story global.

CEO Emily Pullen says being based on the Darling Downs has a wide range of benefits, from the affordability of commercial properties to the availability of skilled workers and access to top tier services, suppliers and mentors.

“There’s a really innovative core of food businesses in this region, right from the agri side through to further processing across proteins, across commodities,” Pullen says.

“When we were first getting started with exporting there were other, more established exporters in different market segments to ours, who we could lean on for support and for advice.

“It’s a really innovative, exciting space and there’s a real celebration of successes amongst the businesses.”

Pullen says having Wellcamp Airport ten minutes from Jim’s Jerky’s warehouse is another significant factor.

“It’s absolutely helped us decision make around what our target markets would be,” she says.

“Having Wellcamp here means that we have amazing trade links into south east Asian countries.

“Being a regional centre but having world class transport links, you can’t really beat it.

“We’ve just started our export journey now but we can already see that it’s going to be a significant pillar for our growth - that means being able to employ more people.

“It also means we’ll be able to get our products into the international market and proudly state we’re from Toowoomba in regional Queensland.”
